About Me

Welcome! My name is Kate Prokop and I am a math teacher at Hubbard. I graduated from University of Illinois at Chicago in 2009 with a bachelors degree. I then started teaching at Hubbard and have been here since then. In 2016 I went back to college and got my masters degree from Lewis University. When I am not teaching, I enjoy spending time with my family. I also like going on vacation and visiting new places.

My students work in groups everyday and engage in their learning by doing many hands on activities. I create learning activities that engage students in the process of problem solving. I provide students with opportunities to make connections between what they learn, what they already know, and how it applies in their daily lives. By engaging students in their learning, I want to create problem solvers and critical thinkers. Technology is a great way to enhance the learning process. Appropriate use of technology can be a great way to involve students and promote deeper understanding of content goals and objectives.

I enjoy teaching high school mathematics because it gives me an opportunity to show my students the importance of mathematics in our changing world. We live in a world of technology and major advancements. As a math teacher, not only do I want my students to do well in my math class and graduate from high school, but more importantly, I want them to take what they learn beyond their high school experience. I want them to go to college and expand their knowledge. Most importantly, I want them to realize that the need for mathematics has never been greater both in the workplace as well as in their everyday lives.
