IB Diploma Programme at Hubbard
Hubbard High School is a medium-sized neighborhood school with a highly successful IB Diploma Programme since 1998. With the inquiry-based learning in the IB Programme, our IB graduates are ready for success in college. The two-year IB courses help students develop their critical thinking, research and writing skills, and presentation abilities—all with an awareness and understanding of international-mindedness. IB students work on interdisciplinary projects, take field trips, and have fun together as they grow and support each other over their 4 years at Hubbard. We have something for everyone at Hubbard, and our IB students are involved in many extra-curricular activities and athletic teams.
Applying to Hubbard IB
Students can apply to Hubbard IB through GoCPS in the fall of eighth grade. Pre-IB students are in a cohort with their highly motivated peers taking six honors classes freshman and sophomore year. Students can also take AP United States History sophomore year.
University Scholars and students in general education classes are welcome to enroll in IB Diploma Courses during their junior year based on their personal interests and strengths and teacher recommendations. Students learn about IB courses offered at Hubbard at the Opportunity Fair in February or through Mrs. Brown's class presentations. Please see Mrs. Brown or your counselor if you are interested in taking an IB course as a junior.

Creativity, Activity, and Service--Students complete a variety of CAS experiences and one CAS project.

Full IB Diploma Students enroll in seven IB classes that are taught over two years with the same teacher. Students must take three Higher Level (HL) courses and three Standard Level (SL) to qualify for the IB Diploma. Students earn the distinguished IB Diploma with 24 IB exam points, successful CAS completion, and a passing Extended Essay grade.
Although we encourage students to pursue the Full IB Diploma Programme, some students elect to take individual IB classes based on their strengths and interests as IB Course Candidates
Benefits for College
Colleges recognize the rigor of the IB Diploma Programme and award college credit for IB scores. All public universities in Illinois award college credit for IB scores of 4+ (out of 7) on IB subject exams. Students can check individual universities to determine college credit granted for IB scores. Hubbard IB graduates often enter college with a full semester of college credit or more (15 + credits). Early college credit saves students time and money!
Many IB students earn acceptance to selective universities and are awarded scholarships because these institutions recognize how well the IB Programme prepares students for college. 100% of Hubbard IB graduates enroll in college, many with generous merit scholarships. The bottom line is IB students are prepared for college and beyond!
